Dear Welch Shark Parents,
Welcome to the start of a new season of summer swimming! Welch has an amazing group of families who
support this team. In addition to
participating in the team’s practices and competitive swim meets, being a part
of the Welch Team also includes a number of fun activities for our
swimmers. Some of these non-swimming
activities include: Ice cream social, T-shirt tie-dying, bagel breakfast, pancake
breakfast, a State College Spikes baseball game, and the end-of-season awards
banquet. You will be able to view a
listing of Welch team events on our Facebook page and the “Calendars” tab of
our team’s blog site www.WelchSwimTeam.blogspot.com
Now for some seriously dryland
information. It obviously takes money to
be able to provide these additional dry
activities. Summer swim teams obtain
their main operating funds through two means:
1) Home swim meet food concession sales and 2) Fundraisers (…groan).
In 2013 we introduced a change in how we raise funds, the direct
donation. Prior to 2013, we held several
fundraising sales each season (Marianna’s Hoagies, Little Caesar’s Pizza kits,
Hoss’s, etc.) in order to provide funds for all of these fun team activities. However, these fundraisers are very time
consuming and difficult to coordinate with such a short season and summer
travel schedules. After two years of
use, we feel that the direct donation method was greatly approved and accepted
by the majority and also financially successful and efficient.
So once again, instead of multiple fundraising sales events,
we are asking each family to make a donation of $10 for each of their children
on the team. We hope that this will make
fundraising easier and still provide us with the money we need to continue the
activities. Please note that this monetary
donation will not replace the food donations we need for the concession stand
for our home meets or the drink donation we ask each family to contribute.
Below is a form for your donation. There are also lines to donate for tie-dying
supplies and the end-of-season gifts for the coaches. If you would like to contribute and not have
to worry about sending any more checks, we will dedicate the appropriate
amounts to each fund.
